How to maintain your Original iPhone Data Plan while using/upgrading to an iPhone 3G

iPhone
Step 1:
Purchase an iPhone 3G with a NEW CONTRACT - do not get a fancy plan… stick with the basics…

Step 2: Swap your sim-card from your old iPhone wit the sim-card in your newly purchased 3G. (yes, it will work off the bat- no activation required!)

Step 3: Use iPhone 3G w/ your original sim-card, sync w/ iTunes to transfer all your original contacts, music, et al. Maintain your original data plan which could be as much as $25 cheaper on a monthly basis, and evade the 2-year contract & 1-year upgrade limitation.

Step 4: Call AT&T and request a cancellation for you newly acquired contract (the # you picked up when you purchased the 3G)

Step 5: Sell your old iPhone on eBay/Craigslist for upwards of $450-$500!!!

Let’s calculate your total out of pocket expense/savings/benefits:

Buy a new iPhone 3G for $199, sign up for a new data plan for $69.99 w/ $35 activation, cancel the contract for $170, and you’re scott free!Total expense for new 3G iPhone w/ NO CONTRACT: $476

Typical savings on an annual basis assuming unlimited text messaging: $180/year

Additional Benefits: NO CONTRACT for your iPhone 3G, ability to resell the device whenever you please (now $850 on eBay), and remain eligible for incentivized phone upgrades!
