Push IMAP Gmail for Blackberry - trick: Enable both POP & IMAP in Gmail Settings!
As of September 4, 2008…”A quiet BlackBerry Internet Service upgrade has been rolled out that according to many is resulting in much quicker e-mail delivery over IMAP. Traditionally, only those on BlackBerry Enterprise Server would get their e-mail pushed to their handset instantly, and BIS users had to wait 10-15 minutes for delivery. Now anyone getting their BIS e-mail via servers that support IMAP IDLE will receive messages in real-time as the standard was designed to provide.” - blackberrycool.com
To ensure that you receive true PUSH you must enable both “POP” & “IMAP” Access under your Gmail Settings - “Forwarding & Pop/Imap Settings.”
This may be of particular interest to those that have Gmail for Organizations setup, and aren’t receiving true instant IMAP access per the Sept. 4 Blackberry Email Service update.
Note: to receive IMAP email support on your blackberry device, you must setup your email to receive it via IMAP - if you haven’t done so, please see: “the following instructions.”
